Kohei Ueno started to play the saxophone in a school band at the
age of eight.
He has studied under Nobuya Sugawa, Nami Tsurukai and Hiroshi Hara.
He won the 1st prize at the 12th Junior Saxophone Competition, and the gold medal at the 7th and the 10th Japan Junior Wind and Percussion Competition. He was the youngest saxophonist to win the 1st prize at the 28th Japan Wind and Percussion Competition, being honored with other special awards granted by the Prime Minister, the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports,Science and Technology, and the Governor of Tokyo. When he won the 2nd prize at the 6th Adolphe Sax International Competition in Dinant, Belgium in November, 2014, the news traveled fast via the local media, causing quite a stir in Japan.
In February and March of 2012, he joined Nobuya Sugawa, an internationally renowned saxophonist and Ueno’s mentor, in “Nobuya Sugawa EX Tour 2012”, which took them to various parts of Japan. His guest appearance turned out to be a great success.
He participated in the 16th World Saxophone Congress in Scotland as a soloist, and performed “Dance of Uzume”, a challenging piece by Piet Swerts with the Royal Northern College of Music Wind Band, winning the highest praise from the doyens of the world.

Takashi Yoshimatsu with the Tokyo New City Orchestra with a great success. He was invited to “Recital Nova”, an NHK FM radio program, and the TV Asahi’s“Untitled Concert”, where he performed Martin’s “Ballade for Saxophone and Orchestra” with The Yokohama Sinfonietta conducted by Kazuki Yamada. He has worked with such ensembles as the Tokyo New City Orchestra, the Royal Northern College Wind Band, and the Yokohama Sinfonietta.
He plays the soprano saxophone in the Rev Saxophone Quartet, and is the concertmaster of the Panda Wind Orchestra. As of 2015, he is a fourth year student of the Department of Instrumental Music, Tokyo University of the Arts.
